Wonder if I was to add a processor module that would apply a short exponential gain envelope to each detected peak? If for instance the triggered amplitude envelope is adjusted maybe 60 ms long or whatever turns out to sound good-- Adjusted maybe 2 or 3 dB peak gain, or whatever turns out to sound good-- Seems doubtful that extreme peak boosting would sound very good, or at least not very transparent. The quiet peaks would maybe get gain commensurate to their significance in the audio, compared to the loud peaks? Such a process of triggered gain envelopes, if done right, ought not add intermodulation distortion as compressors or expanders are apt to do?
